Title: Mandarin Speaking Data Research Associate

Location: Portland, OR

Job Description: The research associate role exists within our investment research team, reporting to a senior analyst. The ideal candidate will have both an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for the equity markets and will be inherently curious. The candidate should also be a self-starter with an ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively. Weekly activities will include using data to identify business trends and forecast results, preparing written research reports and working on client request. The analysis will primarily involve using SQL, R and Excel.

Responsibilities:

  • Development and deployment of statistical models for estimation and prediction of corporate performance across various sectors
  • Perform ad hoc analyses in response to client requests
  • Identify new analytical opportunities for market research, performing analysis and developing data-driven models
  • Support the sales process by developing analyses for sales pitches and press releases

Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Mandarin reading, writing and speaking

 

  • Solid understanding of mechanism of collecting data from both websites and mobile apps
  • Responsible for testing, monitoring, and improving the data collection programs we have in production, as well as designing new programs to capture data from the websites and mobile apps from third-party sources
  • Strong quantitative skills with experience using database (e.g. SQL) and/or statistical computing software packages (i.e. R, MATLAB, Python)
  • Effective communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work with large-scale datasets
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and finance concepts
  • Interest in equity markets
  • Degree from a top university with a consistent record of academic excellence
